How to Have a Low-Stress, High-Energy Holiday Season Tips for Saving Energy and Being Stress-Free

When you have cancer, treatment can leave you exhausted and stressed. The hustle and bustle of the holiday season can leave one with low energy, high stress and even depression. These holiday tips can help you enjoy the holidays:

Enlist Help for Holiday Decorating

Putting up a Christmas tree and other holiday decorations can be exhausting, even for someone not going through treatment. Asking family and friends to help is one of the best ways that you can save energy and have a beautifully decorated home for the holidays. Don't have family nearby? Asking neighborhood children to trim your tree is another great way of decorating your tree.

Avoid Crowds and Shop Online

Doing your holiday shopping online is ideal for those wishing to buy gifts for friends and family. You can do it from the comfort of your own home, or even a hospital bed, as most hospitals offer Wi-Fi internet service.

By shopping online, you save time and energy by not having to stand in long lines, gift wrapping, and then shipping. It's also a good idea to avoid crowds if you are in active treatment since your immune system may not be at it's strongest. Many online retailers gift wrap and add cards for a nominal fee.

Not Up to Shopping Online? Buy Gift Cards

Gift cards are easy, can be purchased online, and they are something every person loves. Purchase them at different denominations, place them in a card, and you have the perfect gift for people of all ages!

Have Your Holiday Meal Catered

When most people hear "catered," they think it can be expensive. However, this is not always true. Many supermarkets will prepare a complete family holiday meal for under $50. Better yet, some supermarkets will deliver your holiday feast for a small fee.

Decide Your Limits

The holiday season means holiday parties and other get-togethers. Limit yourself as to how many events you will attend. This may mean prioritizing your social schedule, but it will be worth it in the end.

Holiday get-togethers can be fun, yet leave someone in treatment tired, stressed, and overworked, so try to limit yourself.

Recognize When Rest Is Needed and Take It

Cancer patients need to rest often, especially during the holidays, when stress is high. Learn to recognize when you need to rest, take the time, and try not to delay this much-needed respite.

Make a Budget and Stick by It

The holidays are all about gift giving and it's easy to overspend. This can result in financial stress, which can be the most difficult to resolve and cope with. Create a budget and pledge to stick by it.

Remember, the Holidays Only Come Once a Year

Take time to enjoy the holiday season. Focus on the current holiday season, not previous ones where you could be more active. It is important not to compare or dwell on what you can and can't do this season. By following this tips, you will be able to enjoy the holiday season with less stress and more energy.
